Update on Australia #3

WE WILL BE HITTING THESE MAJOR CITIES: Darwin to Perth, then Sydney to Brisbane!

Here is a map of the first leg of the trip....

And here is the second leg!

There is too much excitement that I can't contain. I'm already thinking to myself "drive on the left side of the road, left side, left side, left side." It'll be weird to get used to at first, but I bet we'll be so used to it by the end of 7 weeks.

Update on Australia #2

The camper van was booked this past weekend and I feel a bit more secure now that our plans are solidifying. I decided to post another update because I just finished applying for a visa! It was simple to do online, and the processing should only take one day.

I've been getting more and more excited about the trip ever since people have begun to ask "So, what are you doing this summer?" There are only 30 days left until we begin the trip of a lifetime and I'm getting pumped to be traveling with someone to share this experience with. At the beginning of this article, the girl on the left is going to be me and the one on the right would totally look like Dani.

Meanwhile, as the plans continue evolving, take a look at these adorable kangaroos.

Update on Australia #1

The plans are beginning to come together, one booking at a time.

We finally reserved our van for the first leg of the trip and yet we still need to book more tickets and another van for the second half. But we'll get to that eventually.

The exchange rate is currently 1 USD to 1.30 AUD. Let's hope that it stays this way!!

Let's Go to AUSTRALIA!

We have officially bought the tickets as of today, March 24th.
Clicking that "Confirm" button was partly terrifying and anticlimactic. The sum exceeded my limit on my debit card and I was required to call my bank in order for the charges to go through. After a ten minute call with a representative, I submitted my request for a ticket a second time and was successful! This girl has finally got her ticket!!

After a quick call with my buddy, we realized our seats were not adjacent to each other and we of course had to get that fixed. The first leg of the trip is 14 hours to Brisbane and after a different call to an airline representative, our seats should be next to one another!

The lady on the phone had an Australian accent and I couldn't help but giggle to myself silently.  There were times when I had to ask her to repeat herself because I couldn't understand the content of what she was trying to explain to me. I had so much fun listening to her accent and I can't wait to be immersed in it this summer.

There are 92 days left until my "first real adventure". Let the countdown begin!

Planning for our Big Trip: The Beginnings

I can't help but imagine myself traveling across the globe to a far away place, soaking up the sun and being free. At this age, I can not think of the perfect time for another period in life where I can go ahead and take seven weeks off with no outside commitments. I believe that the time to travel is now.

Our route  across the Australia continually changes due to rental car plans, the weather, and other issues but I can't wait until we buy our tickets and the trip finally becomes official. Buying an international ticket by myself seems to be such a big step and I feel as if this occasion is almost worth celebrating. The ticket for this trip symbolizes a single step toward my autonomy as an adult and paying for it all by myself will be a challenge, but it is one that is worthy of accepting.

Dani and I have began preparing for the trip by utilizing apps and books to research places to go and things to do. This country has so much to offer and I can't wait to dive in and experience it all!
